PATROL® for CLARiiON
Business Challenge
EMC CLARiiON storage devices include the FC4500 and the FC4700 storage subsystems. As with any complex technology, it is important to modify configurations, monitor the system throughout, and ensure the deviceā??s health, but this can be difficult to accomplish manually. As capacity and storage are added, it becomes even more critical to ensure the device is online and performing optimally.
Business Need
- Simplify device management and centralize storage management by combining storage data and tasks
- Ensure availability, optimize performance, and automate maintenance of network storage devices
- Monitor, expose, and manage key environmental and performance data points to avoid system downtime
- Isolate and resolve device problems quickly and automatically with minimal manual intervention
- Guarantee applicationsā?? service levels and access by identifying device-related events and alerts
Our Solution
PATROL for CLARiiON leverages the Navispher CLI to gather performance, configuration, device status and event information. Starting at the subsystem level, you can drill-down into the storage array to view physical disk drives and the logical units that are presented back to the hosts. You can also view performance metrics, including cache and host/director utilization and changes in I/O activity; power supply, temperature sensor, and fan status data; and configuration information such as world wide name, port state, port status and zoning.
Key Features & Benefits
- Centralizes and simplifies device management through detailed topology mapping and reporting of discovered devices and their interconnections
- Optimizes storage configurations by proactively tracking and reporting detailed environmental, performance and capacity metrics
- Manages costs associated with storage devices through predefined, vendor-specific and customized historical application-to-storage device reporting
- Expedites problem resolution through a centralized GUI-interface menu, user-defined thresholds, and drill-down capabilities into the device
- Ensures applications are online and performing by automatically detecting and resolving device-related events and alerts
- Maintains rapid data access without interruption by consolidating critical device- and application-specific event, performance, and capacity data
