PATROL® for Symmetrix
Business Challenge
EMC Symmetrix arrays provide the basis for highly flexible, scalable, and upgradeable IT infrastructures. It is important to establish and then modify configurations based on evolving workloads and ensure the health of the array, but this can be difficult to accomplish manually. As capacity and storage grows, it becomes even more critical to ensure the device is online and performing optimally.
Business Need
- Simplify device management and centralize storage management by combining storage data and tasks
- Ensure availability, optimize performance, and automate maintenance of network storage devices
- Monitor, expose, and manage key environmental and performance data points to avoid system downtime
- Isolate and resolve device problems quickly and automatically with minimal manual intervention
- Guarantee applications service levels and access by identifying device-related events and alerts
Our Solution
PATROL for Symmetrix uses the EMC SymmAPI-Management API as a means to gather performance, configuration, device status and event information along with SNMP traps. With PATROL for Symmetrix, you can view the Symmetrix device in a hierarchical structure and receive a variety of performance metrics including cache and host/director utilization and changes in I/O activity. This product also monitors the status of the local and remote Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) volumes as well as the Business Continuance Volumes (BCVs) configured to a particular host.
